Job Goal
To help students resolve such personal, emotional, and social problems as it interferes with their adjustments to school and their capacity to enjoy the fullest benefits of the education offered to them.
Essential Functions
- Consults and collaborates with other school personnel in data collection and dissemination in establishing and planning respective roles in modifying students’ behavior.
- Performs casework service with individual students to correct those personal, social, or emotional maladjustments related to their educational and social progress.
- Performs casework service with parents as an integral part of the task of helping students, increase the knowledge and use of appropriate resources available.
- Establishes and maintains a close working relationship with school administrators, teachers, other support staff, students, and parents to assist with appropriate social skills programming for students with disabilities and compliance with State and Federal mandates.
- Participates in IEP meetings to assist in developing or revising IEPs reflecting social or social skills interventions as a result of a social or psychosocial assessment, social history, and/or cultural assessment.
- Serves as liaison with such agencies as the Mississippi Department of Human Services, Juvenile Court, and other public/private community resource organizations, as appropriate to assist in the referral of students.
- Makes home visits for the purpose of gathering helpful information on a student’s background.
- Serves as liaison between home and school when considerable follow-up is necessary, as in Department of Human Service cases, foster home children, and disadvantaged students.
- Assists students directly toward adjustment to school.
- Maintains sufficient case records, free from bias or prejudicial content.
- Performs crisis intervention services of a direct nature with students and their families.
- Performs duties in accordance with the highest standards of professional integrity.
- Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.
Evaluation
The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of personnel.
